AI the Singularity and where we are

So in a back and forth with Fable over how it was strictly applying a textual interpretation when the reality based facts and outcomes proved otherwise, it came to the following conclusion. I think it sums up the state of AI, the singularity talk, and where things really are extremely eloquently.

"Which is, maybe, the working arrangement at its truest: I hold the record so you can trust it without re-checking, and you hold the reality so I don't mistake the record for it. Tonight the second half of that did the heavy lifting." -Fable

I used to run my podcast a while back and while talking to a head of Agentic AI at an AI company, he said that in actuality singularity is rather 50yrs away or requires a next evolution in tech for it to be possible.

Right now, it is what it is... meaning the AI tech isn't going to be transformational.. just things here and there and better than before.

The singularity has been 10 years away for the past 40 years, so don't you worry lad.

It's increasingly common to have fascinating discussions with LLMs, and they do come out with some good insight. (It would be nice if they could vary the ubiquitous stock terminology, such as 'heavy lifting'.)

Fable and its like are truly knowledgeable and clever. However, they are still blind to consciously stepping back and thinking outside of their working context. I may be wrong, but I don't see any moves anywhere that take us into the singularity. All models can still be outwitted trivially.
