Ask HN: Where can I find small programmer communities?

Hi, i am a college freshman but as strange as it sounds, no one in my college is actually that interested in computer science. I am trying to find some small communities where i can actually talk and see people who have the drive. Any recommendations?

I built https://kilta.io for this exact kind of problem, how do I find people near me with similar interests.

But its new and not venture backed so building the required network is slow.

Short of that try meetup.com, there are often indiehacker type events. I just don't like how meetup works, the cost, etc.
