Who among us doesn't have persistent dreams of abandoning society, running for the hills, and becoming off-grid farmers?

It was really peculiar when in the midst of the glitzy OpenAI GPT5.6 launch video, one of the "featured" use cases was this: A farmer out in a field in China somewhere.-

Only the ones who still haven't noticed it is impossible, they WILL come for your ass. State laws will forbid you to farm there. Food industry will forbid you to replant these seeds. Heavy equipment industry will forbid you to fix your engine. The only way out of the meat grinder is through death.

Speaking as someone who ran away to the hills to become an on-grid farmer, I do recommend having a grid connection. Makes life a LOT simpler. Milking machines and chillers use a lot of power, the sun doesn't always shine enough days in a row to keep your batteries topped up, and small wind turbines are basically useless.
