Here's another meta-lesson: "woke" turns out to be broadly popular and is not actually going away.
Yes, many people *genuinely* give a fuck that tech leaders are promoting white supremacy and ethnic cleansing, and there will be actual consequences for this.
Whenever disagreeable, humorless scolds start squealing about how "everybody must do X" or "everybody must stop doing Y" ... it makes a lot of people want to do the opposite.
If despicable individuals start hating on somebody, reasonable people will have a positive view by default and will be more compelled to try what crazies are trying to ban.
"I don't care what you hate, since I have have seen what you cheer". Quite the opposite: "oh, you hate it, must be good and worthy"
Websites like this just do the opposite of what they are trying to achieve. (Giving more attention to the target.)
It means that the alternative distros are not quite effective in their own marketing and Omarchy was able to market and attract funds to their distro better than others, despite the views of the creator.
The alternative distros need a proper answer to Omarchy and invest in serious marketing and let the user choose for themselves just like alternative car manufacturers, which even if you check their history, its quite bad and even worse than a distro.
Mainstream distro users/contributors were too busy arguing that Debian is better than Slackware, Arch is better than Debian, Ubuntu is for noobs and now NixOS (whatever that is) reigns supreme. All that reduced the UX of these distros to the lowest common denominator, with varying degrees of skill requirements to get the thing working.
What if everything people wanted was a riced Arch/Ubuntu distro that was trivial to install on pretty much anything and not a lecture on how non-free drivers/software can't be included, leaving your machine unable to connect to the internet?
This website's color scheme screams fascism; accusing someone of being the very thing that you are, in psychological terms, is referred to as 'projection'.
DHH can be a POS at times, but c'mon - they are painting him like he's a war criminal! It's crazy! He's a nerd who is probably on too much T, probably dealing with some AI psychosis, has a huge ego because of his success, probably should touch grass a little more often and definitely needs a bit more empathy for people who aren't millionaires, but he is not a supervillain.
The HN poster of this owns an extremely anti-social page btw https://boomerdeathwatch.com/ . Before he claims that "they deserved it", note how the page itself does nothing but make them look like a weirdo lol
Kinda agree with others here. Imo omarchy is a slop derivative distro but freaking out about DHH is just going to have the opposite effect. Not every inane thing he does requires a reaction, and the opposite of crazy is also well, crazy, just of a different kind.
The writer of this website and people like them should be removed from having any amount of power and relevance in software development. That is, if you want to do software work instead of bikeshedding with bad faith struggle sessions.
All this effort spent on making lists which dubiously include some of the world's biggest corporations, the creators of JavaScript, GNU and the opensource movement... instead of making something better? Not "ethical", just make something better.
You might argue that there are better distros out there, but has any other distro gained so much traction so fast since Ubuntu? And this even before a single cent was spent from all the 'fascist' donations.
I've come to hate Windows, to increasingly dislike macOS and to love Linux because I no longer have to spend my days ricing, recompiling wifi drivers for older machines and stuff like that. I don't have the time. Omarchy is worth it for me because someone else worked on this, passed it on for free and it just worked. Perhaps those big donators see value in that as well, and not just in some supposed power-grab?
This just makes me want to support omarchy, not particularly because I like it or DHH, but because I hate bullies trying to make everyone do what they say.

First time I heard it was decades ago and it has been proven more and more true since then.
Omarchy Is a Power Grab
