An interesting article, but I'm still not sure what "The Machine" was. Are we talking about all sorts of things, or the tape machine?

Especially interesting was the claim of using vocals as percussion. Had not thought of it that way.

I understood the machine = the Quincy Jones–Michael Jackson–Rod Temperton triangle
Exactly. But some would call it a team, not a machine, no?
As sibling comment says, a combination of song writer, performer, producer. Much like the Richard Daly "machine" of Chicago politics, it's not a box with a button you can push but a combination of different people and circumstances that produce a result.
Slop
sometimes, I really do wonder if 'slop' slingers like yourself are just rage baiting. Are yu rage baiting? Or this is just an excuse for not being able to read without pictures?
Thank you for stepping in to respond to the comments that try, in every possible way, to belittle the little work we’ve done. When I see comments like @yoggies_bro’s, I’d rather not even bother responding, because that would be giving them any attention at all.
Your work is obviously AI generated. It has a comical amount of LLMism "It's not cheap nostalgia. It's recognizing serious craft when I see it."

I also spot checked one suspicious claim and found it to be easily disproven:

"Rod Temperton is probably the least-talked-about name in this whole story... He died in 2016 and most obituaries gave him a paragraph, maybe two."

Just google Rod Temperton Obituatry and you will find many long obituaries from NYT, BBC, NPC etc.

That's all that account does is post "slop". Flag it and move on.
