Same thing happened to me! It reads like a fictional webcomic until you start seeing the little things included like 'real headcount sheet' and then its WTF, this is real?
A friend of mine was sent to a similar place in the late 90s, specifically for queer kids, but what I heard was eerily similar except with a lot more Jesus. He escaped and his parents were somehow convinced to send him back! He killed himself soon after, in a very painful and slow way. I could not bring myself to go to the funeral. There are few things in this world that truly anger me, and decades later I still feel it.

Actually, I guess you are right, since it becomes "legal" once the parents have signed the child's rights away to a 3rd party.
It's a real shame that signing away your child's rights, without them present in a court of law, is not illegal.
It's interesting, but it's not for the faint heart.
