Ask HN: Are word processors obsolete nowadays?

In the 80s, word processors were arguably the most important app and people bought computers just to run them.

Nowadays, the web browser has probably taken over that role and text editing is now part of many apps, both desktop and online.

But I wonder whether word processors, where you care a lot about layout and even page breaks, still matter.

Maybe they do in some fields but not in others?
