as a user, i hate change that doesn’t fix a problem i have directly experienced, as the cause isn’t clear, and now neither is my new workflow.

it is a bit much to say that users only hate changes that don’t help them.

they hate changes with no obvious benefit.

as for users that hate the people behind the code, they will either grow up, or not.

This.

Any time you are making the user do something in a different way, you are putting a real cost on that user. If the user doesn't get a benefit that is greater than that cost, then they (quite rightfully) will hate that change. If the user gets a benefit that is greater than the cost, they'll accept it.

Our industry has a long had problems dealing with that. We rarely understand (and often don't even see) the actual cost to the user, or the actual benefit, if any, that the user will see. We tend to judge those things according to our own sensibilities, but our own sensibilities are often radically different from those of our users.
