Show HN: PeerYeet – P2P file transfer or fail (peeryeet.com)

I wanted a p2p file transfer site that didn't require you to create an account or login, didn't require you to upload your files and either established a webrtc p2p connection or just failed (no TURN relay). You're data never hits the peeryeet server.

For the hackernews audience I'll mention my other requirements: a single binary, written in C, super efficient so I can run the whole service on a very minimal VM.

Hopefully I can finally stop sharing files with myself via gmail now. :)

Most of the home consumer WiFi Routers block inbound connections with no way to unblock them, thus PeerYeet cannot establish a connection. One workaround is to use OpenWRT https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer_c7 on the router and allow direct connections, but it is not so easy to do.

For example I cannot use PeerYeet on any of my devices, even if I am on the same wifi. So they find the senders, but it is always no direct path, nothing was sent.

Unfortunately you need to relay the traffic.

So, i'm still perfecting my stats collection but so far it looks like 74% of the traffic that tries to send a file is able to. My goal at the beginning of the project was 70%... so I'm still happy by this.
