Ask HN: Why today's black banner at top on HN News

1 points by ninju 20d ago ↗ HN

Hello all,

I see a black banner at the top of HN News today and I know it normally to highlight an event that occurred that would be great significance to the HN community at large.

I believe today's banner is for the passing of Margaret Hamilton (https://news.mit.edu/2026/margaret-hamilton-computing-pioneer-dies-1007)

My question is two fold

1) Am I right or is the black banner for something else?

2) Would it be possible to make the banner clickable and send to the post that contains the announcement?

Kind regards

You're right, it is for Hamilton

Margaret Hamilton thread https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49998895

and rather than have it be clickable the tradition has been more to leave it up to you to search/discover and promoting site participation etc. Didn't take you long!

And as quickly as it appeared...the black banner is gone
