Ask HN: Are LLMs Solving Math?

Are LLM agents solving all known math problems from low to high complexity consistently now or are LLMs "only" synthesizing solutions for ripe problems given humanities current math knowledge?

math problems are fun, but solving maths in itself doesnt really do anything perse. there are math problems sure, but its more interesting to solve problems using maths, which i think is a better question. is it needed still to learn maths or are llms able to _apply_ it to problema. if they cant apply it they can also not solve it in your wording simply because not all problems will be known.

i know some maths problems are just that, problems in maths unsolved as a mathematical excersize, but a lot are problems attempted to by soles _using_ math which is different and imho the goal/idea of maths. describe something meaningful in a logical language.
