Maybe we should force professors to write in cursive and drop word-processors too, or force them to submit their dissertations no one will read by pigeon. How about fixing their hubris, then getting in on where the action and throughput has moved to?
The toxic attitudes of administrators, teachers, school boards (and their donors) that value identity politics over teaching critical thinking and self-sufficiency seem like a better problem to fix, rather than ignorning one of the best thought partners to date....
IMO If you're not personally laughing at the position universities have put themselves willingly, then you're part of the group society is laughing at for the above hubris. The value you put on that fancy paper your parents bought is comical once you look at the deltas in earnings. College is a lemming factory that sets up students for one of the most jarring entries into the real world that doesn't have these same performative "values."
Restricting tool use doesn't solve that - it compounds it. Typical academia thinking: that being a luddite is the answer, and tradition is the only way to maintain their status quo when they're already irrelevant and are sinking rapidly.
If that happens there will be a fracture in higher education and 2 branches will materialize.. With Ai super powers and without Ai branches and 2 different type of graduates will emerge.
It is likely that it will happen. Ai educated and non-Ai educated populations can emerge
