GLP-1s are being overused by people who don't even need them!
We are definitely going to see an increased risk of gallbladder/bile issues population wide if this trend continues.
A calorie deficit works for fat loss; you don't need GLPs in the vast majority of cases.
The funniest thing is that people have produced studies and use them to conclude, “Diet and exercise do not work.” and they use it to boost GLPs even more.
>Calorie deficit works, but the ability for an average person to maintain a calorie deficit without external help is close to 0%
I don't agree with 0% figure at all.
The market is filled with "Eat X for weight loss, eat Y for weight gain."
The average person actually does not choose the right strategy for weight loss, which is a "calorie deficit."
But implementing it is not "EASY" until you understand how expenditure, calorie intake, and weight movement work, which is too much work to understand for an average Joe.
OKAY, the vast majority of people on Hacker News can probably wrap their heads around these concepts if they find the right resource, but the average Joe can't.
Let's take something as simple as "calorie deficit."
Being at a calorie deficit itself requires knowing two things:
1. How much you burn in a day (total daily energy expenditure or TDEE)
2. How much your intake is for the day
Deficit = TDEE - Intake
You can do calorie counting for #2. But what can you do for #1?
The average guy does not know how to calculate these properly, let alone judge weight movement, which can move a lot in the opposite direction due to water weight fluctuations that can exceed 1 kg+ of movement a day.
The market is also incentivized to get you to do things that are bad for humans
Like putting Oreos in your mouth
Furthermore the market is incentivized to continuously make Oreos increasingly plasticized
These are market forces
You’ll never see the butter company do shit like this. Such a disingenuous take. We are talking about food here, that goes inside you. The food makers can 100% make healthy Oreos, they don’t want to because fuck us. I’m asking why. This is a reasonable question.
>The issue is people not having a good enough activity level and then getting fat, and swinging to the opposite extreme by crash dieting.
I work out a lot, do you? What’s your bodyfat percentage? I’m at 8%. You will never outrun your diet, and it’s not about fat it’s about health.
And I’m sure you’ll still defend the food makers making plasticized food? What a strange thing to do. What a strange way to think.
They can make it healthy for humans and still taste the same in 2026. GLP1s are a market failure
>I work out a lot, do you? What’s your body fat percentage? I’m at 8%.
Yes, I do. A recent DEXA scan puts me at 12% BF, which I maintain year-round at an FFMI of 25.
Lemme ask: how many people have you trained?
>You’ll never see the butter company do shit like this. Butter is butter as it’s been for thousands of years. There’s a different between these two things.
People used to be fat before oreos were ever invented.
>You will never outrun your diet, and it’s not about fat; it’s about health.
Who claimed you can outrun a bad diet? I simply said people's activity level is low; this results in low maintenance calories, so when they apply a deficit, their target calories end up being low.
You need to increase your activity level if you are sedentary.
>What’s more, I’ve noticed your username, South Asia is being ravaged by diabetes.
43% to 44% of U.S. adults have obesity.
>not some theoretical thing you can preach against online.
We've got 17,000+ users and many reviews. Lemme know how many people are vouching for you.
I do not believe in biased research coming out of US.
And honestly, I’ve trained 2-3 people. I see them struggle with nutrition above all else, of course I will empathize with people trying to defeat these cravings companies have engineered, it’s not normal.
If we had more sustainable foods, like low calorie sweets or making our cravings healthier starting at the manufacturer, we wouldn't even feel like we're dieting.

Just about every study ever done on diet and exercise shows this.

Have you seen the math required for figuring out "Maintenance Calories?, see this: https://macrocodex.app/knowledge/rethink/adaptive-tdee/
And all the factors that go into this? see this: https://macrocodex.app/knowledge/macrocodex/smart-calorie-bu...
We've 17,000+ users why? because #1 is a difficult problem for many.
Guaranteed results within 2-3 weeks, many people start seeing results from the very first week; you can read reviews if you doubt this.
>Just about every study ever done on diet and exercise shows this.
Those studies already set people up for failure to begin with; I wrote about it here: https://macrocodex.app/knowledge/rethink/weight-loss-studies...
You can still get fat eating organic whole foods; butter tastes good, and it's easy to overeat.
The issue is people not having a good enough activity level and then getting fat, and swinging to the opposite extreme by crash dieting.
GLPs make it very easy to crash diet which results in other issues.
Once a person understands how calories map to weight changes over a period of time, it becomes very easy for them!

For the free market?
And honestly, I’ve trained 2-3 people. I see them struggle with nutrition above all else, of course I will empathize with people trying to defeat these cravings companies have engineered, it’s not normal.
This mentality is why people crash diet.
If we had more sustainable foods, like low calorie sweets or making our cravings healthier starting at the manufacturer, we wouldn't even feel like we're dieting.
The obesity starts with the manufacturer.
Have you actually looked into our method? https://macrocodex.app/knowledge/rethink/adaptive-tdee/
Look at the results and see how successful our approach is.
