Show HN: Fakeipedia – Wikipedia for worlds that don't exist (fakeipedia.org)

Hi HN!

Fakeipedia is an automatic world-building platform which takes an imagined world and makes a whole wiki that you can endlessly explore by clicking red links.

I came up with this idea a few months ago after playing around with worldbuilding in Gemini, but I didn't want to release it until a powerful enough model could do it justice, and I decided that Argon is creative enough to write articles that are worth reading. I was surprised how well it turned out and how engaging some of the writing actually is.

If you want to generate an article there is a nominal charge attached ($0.90), which helps cover AI/Stripe costs, and I think I just about break even. You can also steer the generation ala choose-your-own-adventure books when generating a new article. Everything generated is free and public for everyone to see.

I hope you like it and I'm very much open to hearing about new world ideas/features that would make this project better.

We already have this, it's called Wikipedia.
So were all the articles generated using Gemini Argon?

I find that surprising because, after all, they're not badly written and don't exhibit the typical AI writing patterns, at least not in "You" or "The Veracity Shift"

Google says that writing and conciseness was a big focus for Argon. I suspect it's also been told to to write in wiki style, which usually gets to the point pretty quickly.
Synthesis of data by LLMs is really good today. I have tried it several times, e.g. for obituaries, or profiles of known people. Nevertheless, I would suggest to double-check everything (Jev, another agents) as one LLM is not enough. Its knowledge can be capped somewhere you don’t want.

Fiction similar to Fakeipedia? Skill for unslop and a little detailed prompt is good enough to generate texts that 98 pct don’t recognize from human-written ones.

For a second I thought this was a replacement for the ads-up-the-waazoo enshittification of Wikia that is Fandom :')
Fun fact: You can change "fandom.com" to "antifandom.com" in any Fandom URL to get a fast, clean, ad-free mirror.
Bismillah, May the hair on your head never fall
These are pretty well written, got drawn to a couple of them.
i presume the red links are supposed to only be for fake things, but Broca's area is definitely a real thing. almost paid 90c to dream up my ideal fantasy definition of Broca's area to take part in the poisoning of canonical truth on the web. that sounds mean but i do like Fakeipedia in general
Everything starts out as a red link. On the real wikipedia red links are for articles that should be there but just aren't written yet. Same here - once that link is generated it becomes blue.
If it did not have Wikipedia layout and structure, I'd say that all articles are from something adjacent to SCP foundation. The narration style is much more SCPish than Wikipedish, because Wikipedia's main thing is an actual graph of articles that does not need to tell the whole lore in one page. Only SCP Foundation articles try to capture a whole world idea into one page.
I found the ASI page a compelling read. The amount of horrific details it came up with relative to the prompt is a little unnerving. I do find in my own experiments that they are really good with dystopian AI takeover "fiction".

I put a lot of human work into making the seed article for ASI more so than any other wiki. That’s why it’s getting all these weird details. I am on my phone at the moment so I can’t link, but the seed articles should be in the repo.
Awesome. How did you prompt it? In my experience generated long texts quickly turn sloppy.
these made-up worlds are way more detailed than i expected lol
