As an owner of one of these pair of headphones, I'm trying to understand what this brings to my life? It's not clear why this app is specifically useful for sony headphones? The price seems quite high from what I can see it offers?
What do you mean? It's brand new shiny vibecoded macos copy/clone of an open source project[0][1], and it has 'Open' in the name despite being a completely closed copy of an open source project... and it's at the top of hacker news completely naturally from this first time poster...
Give it some time - its good that we have such alternatives, because they'll still be there the day Sony decides not to support your particular OS incantation.

I own the WF-1000XM3 (earbuds). All these headphones and earbuds have a mobile app to control the advanced features. I used to use them with my Mac for work and it was always super-annoying to accidentally tap ANC off or tap "play" while taking them off or putting them on, but during call you couldn't fix it because it'd be in "call mode" and disable ANC/playback/... control. I guess headphones are less annoying because they have a bigger pad to tap, so less chance to misclick, but the earbuds were a constant annoyance.
It's an 'open' , for-profit vibed clone of actual open source projects [0]... they do have a source link to their vibed copy buried somewhere on their site, but I don't see any reason to care really.
