That admin straight lying about entire UX and reddit design, it has been cancer since old.reddit.com. It's so bad that made me stop using years ago, I only check now and then.
Reddit should stop existing soon, just like quora, orkut, digg and many others.
The final nail. I was an avid Redditor for the first few years but dropped off when the hive mind started taking over. Today, I just read some movie and music/feedback on there. Nothing worth making an account for.
Yeah screw this. When this change goes live, I'm gonna stop contributing to Reddit at all. I already refuse to login on mobile, and if I can't even access the site there, there's no reason to help them on desktop either.
I genuinely hope an alternative becomes popular soon, ideally a federated or decentralised one that doesn't have any of these risks associated with it.
It's already been required for years, if you use a VPN or happen to live in the wrong place according to them. Either way, the site lost any usefulness it may have ever had after it stopped allowing you to see whether the person writing something is a regular of /r/piss and drinking their own.
Like with TXitter (which seems to show one tweet, or a bit more) I will simply not see Reddit information anymore. Thanx for all the fish I guess. Tbh the web uit (except for old.reddit) was already horrible enough to annoy the S out of me whenever I landed on it.
Bold move. Although, I don't think "bold" is what they need where they are going. What's up with these guys? You have something and you wanna turn it into nothing. Just take the site down it will be far less painful.
Aren't shareholders interested in how RDDT is doing?
This allows them to better fingerprint users for advertising. Anything else is just smokescreen. More and more sites are doing this for just that reason.

This seems to kind of mirror the move by Discord to make public messages discoverable.
