Show HN: IsSiteDown – Chrome extension to check current site availability (chromewebstore.google.com)
Hi HN,
I have recently built a small Chrome extension, showing availability of the currently open site. Like you can't open something and want to quickly check, if it is down at all.
It checks HTTP responses, DNS resolution and TLS certificate from the cloud environment.
For a set of well-known sites it also provides information from official status (e.g. Cloudflare, Airbnb etc.), showing short info about latest incidents, if any.
I'm interested in a few things: 1. In which scenarios would you use it? Own sites, general surfing, quick link to official reports? 2. Is it worth to extend this official status part, covering more sites? Which services would you want covered?

[ 59.8 ms ] story [ 705 ms ] threadIf I can't reach a page and the problem is not on my side, I don't actually care what the issue is, since I can't do anything about it.
Maybe I am missing the point
For the known sites it also brings a bit additional infos, e.g. the incident description, which could help you to understand, how long to wait, for example.
