Ask HN: Why is there a disproportion of the ratio between men and women in the field of CS?

I find it interesting that when I attend a marketing group (not to market a product but a general 'user group') that the room is filled with women. However, one would only see a handful at a CS usergroup. How did CS end up being a 'man's' concentration? and do you think this will ever change?

... in the US or other developed countries.

There was an article posted here in HN last year related to this: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=194070

The short of it is that it's because women have the freedom to make that choice, and they choose not to go into CS.
