What are possible platforms/businesses that can use the power of crowdfunding?

Recently, I came across a company called The House Crowd. They came up with a crowdfunding idea to raise money from individuals like you and me to buy old, dilapidated houses for renovation. After finishing renovation, the house will be sold at a profit and the profit will be shared.

I honestly think crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter should implement something to do with monetary returns that will encourage users to contribute more.
