Way to take a decent (if prosaic) point, crumple it up, and toss it in the garbage. You say all this stuff as a preamble to implying that Apple, specifically Apple, lacks confidence in their products? Mystifying.

Take this silliness to its logical end -- Apple shouldn't advertise their products at all. If that's what you think... I dunno what to tell ya.

I don't buy it. Apple has always been like this, even when iPhone was far and away the best thing on the market. It seemed to work fine for their marketing department back then.
