Ask HN: Does Facebook use facial recognition technology to display ads

I had to do a double take as one of the faces from the sponsored ads on Facebook looked like me.

I really wanted to click the ad even though I had no interest in the product.

Does Facebook use facial recognition technology to show a similar face on the sponsored ads?

If not, I was just thinking about how creepy it would be if they were to build a composite of your face or friend's faces for the sponsored ads.
