Ask HN: Algorithms/Problem Solving

I'd like to hear some stories of people that have been intimated by algorithms. With either in interviews or programming competitions it seems like there are a great deal of us who brush off a lot of it as just not being wired the right way to ever be great at these.

Is it something that with practice you can handle any of these problems people throw at you?
