Ask HN: Anyone here make the switch to developer?

Anyone here go from a non-developer job to developer? More appropriately you didn't go to school for CS, you weren't a developer as a kid, and had a job for several years outside the industry.

It would be interesting to see if people have successfully made the switch and how they did it. What about pay, was your first offer good?
