Hacking the NSA System. How does it work?

I know Amazon keeps root password for themselves with virtual servers and only gives me a pseudo-root. Is this the policy they make Facebook et. al. sign onto while the NSA installs some special software as true root? How hackable is this; say if my competitor or the chinese want to know what I'm doing?
