Poll: What do you do when companies won't let you apply through email?

On my job hunt, I'm running across a small but significant percentage of companies that refuse to reveal any email address where resumes could be sent.

They'll insist on making prospective employees jump through hoops by registering at job sites and filling out profiles, or submitting web forms.

The former is especially common at large corporations, but sometimes startups do it too.

Am I the only one who avoids these alternative resume submission methods like the plague?

Short forms are ideal. A simple web form that asks for my name, contact info, a brief introductory paragraph, and a file in the format of my choosing (usually PDF) where I've already listed all relevant info seems logical to me.

But complex web forms that go on for multiple pages, asking all kinds of invasive questions before any interest has been established, and then top it off by requiring you to submit a resume only in Microsoft Word format are ridiculous. I would guess that most people that post here would not be likely to jump through these hoops unless the position was out of this world great.
