popular culture is what keeps "women" out of science vocations. you grow up with "boys, music, fashion, and popularity" as your priorities, brought upon by social structuring and peer pressure, and your brain simply conforms to that. if you never take an interest in science as a kid, you're not going to grow up and become a physicist, chemist, or mathematician...

the early steering of gender based interests creates massive discrepancies in the demographics later on. you want to end it don't attack the institutions because the gender based barriers are relatively minor, fix the problem with culture
