This is almost surely the pricing algorithms of 3rd-party sellers going haywire. We've seen it before on Amazon: http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110425/03522114026/infini...

This is a classic antagonistic scenario for algorithms and it takes a lot of experience to get things to behave properly. Even the really sophisticated folks in financial markets get it wrong - HFT algorithms have run away from their creators in much the same way.
