Treating music as something bigger than 'just' entertainment is pretension IMHO, just as treating wine as more than a drink or chocolate as more than food. That's not to say we don't find greater value in them, but at the end of the day it's an artificial value, an indulgence.

(I say this as a musician who loves both wine and chocolate, and who would be utterly miserable if denied any one of those three things.)
