Ask HN: Best editor theme for screencasts? (dark on light or reverse)

1 points by aroberge ↗ HN
I am wondering if anyone knows of studies that show which kind of theme (dark font on white background or light font on dark background) is best to do programming screencasts; ideally the studies should have looked at the link between theme choice and comprehension/retention. I noticed that basic editors (e.g. notepad[++], crimson on windows, textedit on mac, etc.) have a white background as default (or only available theme) which may influence programmer's preferences. (For many years, I stuck with white backgrounds until I stumbled upon SublimeText Twilight light on dark theme which is now my preferred theme and which I would prefer to see in screencasts ... but may not be the best choice.)
