I love CM. It is much better than the HTC Sense Androidish that shipped on my HTC One. I really hope CM doesn't jump the shark. I was worried about that after the recent announcement, but now, I am very worried about it after this.
It's pretty irrelevant if CM "jumps the shark", and my guess is they will do that anyway, because they have no choice, if they want to play along with OEM's, so I wouldn't blame them for it.

So the solution is simple - fork CM, and let other team (AOKP maybe?) carry on with it, and fill the void of the CM team in the "purely open source" community, with other people (there are a lot of good devs in XDA working on custom ROM's).

If this developer is not happy with what they intend to do with his app, then he should not give it to them. Keep it GPL, and let AOKP or whoever use it the same way CM would've used it before they turned into a company.
