Ask HN: Is HN turning into Reddit?

Lately I've seen increasingly more circlejerk, offtopic posts in otherwise interesting threads. For example:

I can't find more at this moment, but all threads have at least a few of those.

Is this acceptable content on HN? Why are the comments not downvoted or removed?
