Ask HN: When are we getting better batteries?

1 points by adamb_ ↗ HN
I've read countless stories over the past decade of amazing strides being taken improve battery performance in the lab. What's slowing these solutions from coming to market? Large-scale manufacturing feasibility? Not enough R&D? Regulations?

Simply put, when should I (average consumer) anticipate being able to purchase a laptop with a battery that goes +2 weeks without charge? ~10 years? never?
