Ask HN: The most business travel for an IT job?
I've been a software developer, and a software tester, mostly embedded and recently some web stuff, sometimes as perm, sometimes as a contractor. I've worked for several great companies, but one thing that's always eluded me is business travel. I know some people hate it, but I honestly love it. Being far away, strange food, jetlagged and in a rummy hotel - sounds great! But the farthest I've been is about 40km for work.
I know, many fellow IT workers who travel for work complain that most of the time they're in a box, an office, a crummy hotel room, and don't get to explore. But even that would be ok - I'd be accumulating miles.
I'm happy to start targetting a different role at this point - after a decade of cramped desk work, I wouldn't mind training people, or presenting, or liasing - I'm ok with people, and don't mind doing much.
What's the sort of role I should start to target to get some more travel into my work life?
