There needs to be a clear guideline for how to use Show HN in submissions: should it be used to showcase a cool project, or should it be used as a form of Hacker News-friendly SEO for veiled product announcements?

First, the link you point to is to a blog post about the growth and the fact that it is world wide after only being available for a short amount of time.

Second, the current link the OP posted is the interactive map he created to help visualize where his app is being utilized which, in my opinion, is worth having a separate link from his blog post. I enjoyed seeing the map and seeing where his app is being used.

I see nothing wrong with what the OP has done.
