develop for android, then port to iphone/etc if you feel the market is there for your application and it is worth your time.
android has the least restrictive environment, and is taking off in a huge way. the market isn't quite there yet due to the small number of android handsets available for purchase (and stupid carrier exclusivities if you want to argue it) but the more people that hop on this bandwagon, the better it becomes for everyone.
also android as an OS was built for phones sure (google was trying to find a way to increase its mobile search market) but the low overhead and high level of customizability and the fact that its free is leading to installation on a myriad of other devices.
i can't wait till i have android running in my car, just bluetooth to it from my phone and be able to monitor all the internal systems, maybe even upload a new build that i downloaded from carforums last night to make it run more efficiently and shit.
