Stop disobeying our rules, we're here to talk about how more wealth can be allocated to us and especially venture Capitalists. Totally apolitical. (Sorry to those who don't detect sarcasm easily.)
Many (young?) technologists think that technology stands above any kind of politics. They see their work as only bringing benefits to the world. Any bad application or unwanted side-effects should be fixed by applying even more technology.
Things are not so bad. They're not even just bad. Name a time and place where you'd rather live than today in the western world.
This is blatant pandering of one faux-rebel (who supported the very "wrong people" who are in power today) to other faux-rebels applauding a guy from tv who tells them to not listen to what they hear on tv. It's crazy. Or, it would be crazy if the goal was anything but maintaining speaker's personal popularity.
"If patriotism were defined, not as blind obedience to government, not as submissive worship to flags and anthems, but rather as love of one's country, one's fellow citizens (all over the world), as loyalty to the principles of justice and democracy, then patriotism would require us to disobey our government, when it violated those principles."
