Specifically articles or could it include projects? For example, I know many people here have open source projects whose GitHub repos have made front page.

Same. My github repo has made it to the frontpage (bottom of it, but frontpage none the less), but that's very different from having an article attract interest.

I was interested in just articles, but perhaps a follow up poll for projects would be interesting.
