Programming languages are a form of insanity.
How can it be that after 40 years of progress there are no standard domain models, and we as a community rewrite code like shakespearean monkeys not because its more fun but because even after all this time, there are no standard components?
This is why when I hear someone use the LEGO metaphor, I want to tear their head off. It seems the most we can hope for as engineers is to either enjoy this naively and pretend we are contributing good to the world by digging code holes all day, or be promoted into higher level roles into design.
Design, another software field that has no standard domains, and no standard componentry to speak of.
Given the hordes of people in "software engineering", the state of the overall effort is a sum total failure. I hope this changes some day.
