Ask HN: What software do you use to write a technical blog post?

I want to draft a technical blog post that will include code via gists. Should I just write the text in a Google Doc and put the code in a gist(s)? The blog post will eventually need to be in Markdown format because I'm using Octopress/Jekyll.

What do other people do? Should I be using something fancy like iA Writer?
