First I'd like to point out that this was leaked by the same group who had a member pretend to be a Google employee, but I tend to think this is genuine since the “memo” in question in noncontroversial, despite the editorial best efforts.
Generally, I think the press (I'm being kind to Techcrunch et al here) are being incredibly unfair towards Google, it’s a company that pays employees well and provides them commute and for their trouble their buses get vandalized and their employees disrupted on their way to work, so they hire protection and somehow this author (as many others) are spinning it into a “perk”! why aren't they inquiring if the perpetrators who vandalized the bus are in police custody?
And not to mention that Google is just one company that shuttles employees from san francisco yet it's the only one in the spotlight.
