Has Google removed Sets from Google Docs/Spreadsheets?

Comments in the few months appear to indicate it's gone, (http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2012/11/google-sets-still-available.html). Trying it in a spreadsheet suggests it doesn't work, but the UI in Spreadsheets says it's still there. Loved this as a tool for creative thinking. Is there another way to use the google sets, e.g. via API, etc.?
