Yes and no.

I download copyrighted media, without consent from the copyright owner, and without paying. However, here in The Netherlands, this is legal. Only uploading and hosting copyrighted material is illegal.

I wonder if that effects the number of people using Torrents, as those constantly upload while they download.

Technically it should, but in practice the police only targets torrent-hosting sites, never seeders.

No. Also you may want to change the question because downloading copyrighted media from any source for personal use is legal in almost any country in the world. aaaa... us-centric minds

I like to try before buying anything, and most of the times downloading is the only way to try something.
