Ask HN: Why doesn't WhatsApp include a url in server message for upgrade

I have received a message from Whatsapp multiple times asking to upgrade to a newer version from google play. Any thoughts on why dont they simply include some url or other way to act on it? It feels as if they do not want users to upgrade, but on a second thought, if that was the case they wouldnt sent a message in the first place.
