Ask HN: What is performance testing skill?

The only method to test for performance I know is to make a stress test to see which part of the system is the bottleneck. Apart from that, I have not much knowledge.

If I build a web application with CRUD (Java), what kind of tools I can use? What kind of approaches I can try?
