Employer sponsorship for further education

I am interested in Data Science and would like to grow into it. That's why I looked at Berkeley's Data Science distance master degree. It looks very attractive, but the cost is too high for me in general and comparing with some cost of local distance schools (I'm from Europe, so they are cheaper). I wonder how popular is employer sponsorship for further education? Are companies willing to invest in their employees in this way?
