Ask HN: Best way to find and hire a designer?

Hello everyone.

I'm looking to hire a designer, but I'm not sure where to start. I checked out Behance and dribbble and noticed that you can post a job for a few hundred dollars, but is that worth it? Has anyone tried it before? Is there a better way to go about it?
