Ask HN: Commercial software license claims ownership of our patches?

Hi HN,<p>I'm reviewing a commercial software license for a JavaScript library that claims ownership over any patches that we write. Is this language typical for a commercial license where there source code is accessible to the customer?<p>I'm worried that we could accidentally "patch" the library and unwittingly transfer ownership of parts of our application to the vendor.
