This has absolutely nothing to do with democracy. Not even a tiny little itty bitty bit. Zero. The only similarity is that they are both words in the English language.
I work for people all the time who have different political views than myself. They even are millionaires or billionaires who donate a lot to those causes. That does not make me ask the CEO to step down.
Having a difference of opinion is not the same as helping fund a campaign and then refusing to explain your reasons. And I would not work for a company if I knew that the CEO was funding certain causes.
There'll be a crowd along in a bit howling about censorship and intolerance and how we shouldn't judge people on their beliefs. I wonder how many of them would feel the same if Eich had donated to a campaign to illegalize interracial marriage.
I would. His personal beliefs, however off the wall they are, have no correlation to his competency and effectiveness as a CEO. Should the board have taken a closer look at how good of a fit he would be with the culture of the company? Possibly, but to judge him solely on his beliefs and not his business ability is ridiculous.
I mean, what would have happened if Apple Employees called for Jobs to step down for being to much of an arrogant hard ass? (I'm just trying to say it in very plain terms, without going into it to deep.)
I'm not sure the reaction would be the same. Jobs probably would have just fired them and nobody else would voice an opinion out of fear the same would happen to them.
It makes me wonder at what point should a persons personal views be carried over to their day to dat job. Given this guy is CEO, maybe more than a normal employee that had the same views? Because he more represents the public view of the company?
This makes me think that maybe I should look more at the views of those that run the companies I will work for present and future.
Apple is very political. Look at where Tim Cook gives his support and money. It is very liberal and very Democrat.
Some of these things are semi-related to business, like "green" environmentally friendly business practices. But not all of them are, like support for Gay Marriage, the very thing this article is referring to (but for the opposite side).
Do all the heterosexuals, conservatives, or Republicans who work for Apple resign or ask Tim Cook to resign? No!
And I would protest more to a company like Apple supporting causes than to an individual supporting causes in the past. Before he was even Mozilla CEO, right? Prop 8 is old news and his appointment is new. Crazy people.

Is basically the issue raised in Clerks about Death Star politics :) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGOVbXF7Iog
