IPv6? You shouldn't be trying to stick an IP Address in 4 bytes in 2014.

Why would you need to save somebody's IP address in a database in the first place? An IP address isn't a unique identifier of a person (many people can share a computer) or of most people's computers (which have dynamic IPs).

Or were they using their database as their HTTP server log?
