Ask HN: An App to Find Active Forks of OSS Projects?

2 points by chazu ↗ HN
I often find myself on github, looking at the repository for some project which has been seemingly abandoned by its maintainer, but which still has 1000+ stars and 400+ forks. In these cases I rarely find github's fork chart to be very useful in locating the most currently active fork.

Are there any tools out there that help to pick out the more active forks to which development may have migrated in the absence of an active maintainer? If not, is there a secret to using the fork-chart feature of github that I'm unaware of?
